Media Relations

Of all the intricate pieces of the “engine” which can cause the Gathering of Legends and Warbirds to be successful, one of the most critical is that of the care of the visiting media professional.

We call this “Media care”. Too often the aviation media pro is encumbered by fences, people, rules, volunteers, and has faced restricted access to the areas that are much needed  in order to get that shot, that video, or that interview needed in the course of the work that they do. The Gathering of Legends and Warbirds has taken special notice and effort to attempt to accommodate the credentialed aviation media pro in the furtherance of their work. By pre-registering media personnel, we are able to communicate directly with these important professionals in order to understand their needs, requests, and goals. Every effort will be made to allow and promote both air to air photography, as well as the award of free flight slots on board operational aircraft for media purposes. Freelance still and video persons may elect to take advantage of these efforts to accommodate as well. For the Gathering of Legends and Warbirds 2013, ANN FLUMAN has been designated as the dedicated media care specialist. Ann is an accomplished  commercial multi-engine pilot with DC-3 ratings, and will work to respond to your question by finding the correct answer, or by directing you to a person more appropriate to your need.

We appreciate the efforts of the hard working media professional from around the world that have already begun to make plans to attend this gathering. We want to work hard to get you the shot, or the video, or interview that you need in order to bring your talents to their full potential.

REQUEST A “KNOWN MEDIA” PASS

If you are a credentialed member of the media, and would like your media pass pre-approved, please apply via the following page. Upon arrival, you will be able to pick up your KNOWN MEDIA pass at the media center.  This pass will set you apart from the general admission enthusiast and will alert warbird staff and crew members of your status as a professional media employee. It is our intent that this pass should allow you access to aircraft, crew members, and cockpits (time permitting) by staff of respective aircraft that have been briefed regarding your role. These staff should make their best efforts to allow interviews, aircraft tours, and flight slots aboard aircraft for smaller informal air to air photography opportunities. The parking arrangement of the aircraft has been designed such that any single aircraft can start under its own power and taxi to the long runway at any time, and without permission.  Credentialed media persons will be allowed closer to the active runway than the general public for photos and video of aircraft arrivals and departures.
